Leslie Spiers is the Managing Director of Boardroom Dynamics Limited, an international director and management development and consulting company that also specialises in director assessment and executive coaching. He is Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Mercator Media Ltd, Nebula Systems Ltd, Eastbury Hotel Ltd, and a director of World Trade Exhibitions Ltd.. He recently completed two term assignments as chairman of companies with a combined turnover of £60 million in the recruitment and automotive sectors.
His career has spanned the public and the private sectors and has involved him working in organisations ranging from small companies to multi-national conglomerates. He was Director of Consultancy with Mecca Leisure Ltd at the time of the management buy out from Grand Metropolitan and the subsequent floatation on the LSE. He was Development Director whilst with The Rank Organisation and following a management buy-out of Rank’s property company he became Managing Director of Garsington Estates, an award-winning property development company.
Prior to working in the private sector, Leslie was a Leisure Centre Manager and a Principal Officer in Local Government Leisure Services responsible for Leisure Centres, Bars and Catering, Swimming Pools, Museums, Outdoor Recreation and Tourism. He is a qualified Teacher and is a Visiting Fellow at Southampton Solent University Business School. Leslie has made presentations at numerous conferences and seminars as well as delivering in-house courses throughout his career.
He has been the keynote speaker at gatherings in Argentina. Uruguay, Scandinavia, France, Mexico and Australia as well as at academic institutions and at many other prestigious commercial training events closer to home. He is a regular presenter for Business Link Wessex and a trainer for the prestigious Institute of Directors where he delivers sessions on best practice in board governance. In 1997 Leslie backpacked round the world for a year to gather material for a book.
More recently he has travelled across Asia on the Trans –Siberian Express from Moscow to Beijing, spent time living with Maasai nomads in Kenya, Mongolian Herdsmen in The Gobi, Inuit in Northern Greenland, First Nation tribes in The Yukon and Alaska and undertook a solo charity walk the length of England from the Solent to the Solway.
In 2006 he completed a charity run of some 270 miles in 13 days running from the northern tip of Scotland south to Edinburgh and in 2009 helped to establish a school in rural Rwanda. In 2010 Leslie walked the length of Hadrian’s Wall and last year ran solo across Scotland along the Great Glen Way whilst carrying all his own kit.
He studied Divinity at The University of Newcastle upon Tyne, has an MBA and from Southampton Business School, an MA in Art and Ideology from The University of Southampton, in which he specialised in Propaganda, a Diploma in Management Studies from The School of Management Studies at Portsmouth University and a Cert HE in IT in Organisations also from Southampton University.
Leslie played Rugby for over 35 years but now runs Marathons all over the world, including Beirut, New York and Paris. He has a collection of Classic Cars, enjoys Opera, Russian Art and Cryptic Crosswords. For three years he was Chairman of the Village Fete Committee; a task he claims is far more onerous than running a business but now his contribution to village life is as Quizmaster in the bi-annual quiz night and as head barbeque chef at the fete!
